Villiger is guided by the global sustainable development goals set out in the United Nations' 2030 Agenda. We actively contribute to harmonising progress, environmental awareness and social responsibility. Villiger can make a significant contribution to almost all of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the international community.
Good health and well-being
At Villiger, we focus on the potential of every individual – regardless of age. We consciously employ people over the age of 50 and promote intergenerational exchange in order to combine knowledge and experience. Apprentices are retained after completing their training and benefit from the expertise of experienced colleagues. Our systems, such as ILA (Intelligent Loading Assistant), increase safety: drivers remain in the cab during emptying, and sensors monitor every step. The ‘hands-free’ system at collection points enables contactless disposal – hygienic and accessible for all groups of people.
Quality education
Education is the foundation for progress and sustainable development – both for individuals and for Villiger as a company. In Oberrüti, we provide practical, high-level training for industrial mechanics, metalworkers, plant and equipment engineers, commercial clerks and design engineers. At the same time, we provide targeted support for our employees through further training, specialisation and courses. Villiger allows part-time work for in-service training and provides financial support for further education. As a result, many long-standing employees have embarked on new career paths. This ongoing development strengthens motivation, expertise and innovative power throughout the company.
Gender equality
Equal opportunities for all are an integral part of our corporate culture. Precisely because metal construction is still a male-dominated field, we actively promote professional equality. On National Future Day, we show girls the creative side of technical professions and encourage them to question traditional role models. Diversity strengthens innovation – that’s why around 50% of our management team are women. This enables us to create a balanced, modern working environment that combines competence and team spirit across gender boundaries.
Affordable and clean energy
Sustainable development begins within our own company. Our production facilities are gradually being converted to renewable energies. A photovoltaic system on the company roof supplies electricity, while a sensor-controlled LED lighting system saves energy. Our products also follow this principle: we integrate solar technology into waste disposal systems in order to operate intelligent access systems and sensor solutions with clean energy. In this way, we promote efficiency, reduce emissions and make an active contribution to the energy transition – both internally and in the market environment.
Decent work and economic growth
Villiger creates secure jobs for a wide range of professional groups and promotes social integration. Together with local authorities, we provide asylum seekers with internships and apprenticeships to help them enter the world of work. In this way, we offer young people prospects for the future while also strengthening diversity within the company. We invest in training, further development and fair working conditions – as a contribution to a globally sustainable, humane economy that combines innovation and social responsibility.
Industry, innovation and infrastructure
Villiger has stood for continuous innovation for over 30 years. From the first collection systems to compaction solutions such as the Quadromat and the Intelligent Loading Assistant (ILA), our developments have shaped the waste disposal industry. We cooperate specifically with partners from emerging countries, such as Bosnia-Herzegovina, and share knowledge to promote sustainable industrialisation worldwide. Resource- and energy-efficient processes are at the core of our strategy to promote an environmentally friendly, sustainable industry.
Sustainable cities and communities
Cities are growing, and so is the amount of waste they produce. Villiger offers solutions that relieve pressure on urban areas and reduce environmental pollution. The underground Quadromat compacts waste, reduces disposal trips and saves CO₂, while the Intelligent Loading Assistant (ILA) automates the emptying process. Fewer trips mean less traffic and emissions, greater efficiency and safety. Our systems blend inconspicuously into the cityscape and support municipalities in creating sustainable, liveable urban spaces.
Responsible consumption and production
Sustainability begins with design. Villiger focuses on modular construction, durable materials and high repairability. Over 95% of the raw materials used are recyclable. Our service provides maintenance, upcycling and individual spare parts – even for third-party systems. This allows us to extend product life cycles and avoid waste. By adapting existing systems, we create modernised, functional solutions. This conserves resources, reduces emissions and closes the loop between people, technology and the environment.
Life on land
The loss of biodiversity threatens the environment and health. Villiger actively contributes to species protection, for example with bee flaps in glass containers. These prevent insects from entering the containers through the opening and dying there. In this way, we make a concrete contribution to the preservation of species diversity and ecosystems. Biodiversity is the basis for clean air, water and food – values that also shape our actions as a company.
